Cameron Daddo and his partner, Alison Brahe, have been transparent about their almost 30-year marriage’s highs and downs for a long time.
And the 55-year-old Home and Away actor confessed to ‘gaslighting’ his model partner, 50, in the past, in the couple’s latest podcast this week.
It comes after Cameron admitted last year that early in their relationship he had cheated on Alison, blaming alcohol for his infidelity.
Speaking on their podcast, Different Bathrooms and Other Helpful Marriage Advice, after saying how much a heartfelt apology can benefit anyone, Alison bought up the gaslighting issue.
Gaslighting is the other side of it. Especially when I say, ‘When you did it, it really hurt,’ and you say, ‘I didn’t do that,’ Alison said.
Cameron then revealed that he had previously done that to her.
‘I did it to you. I did this. And you know that I did it,’ he said.
Cameron went on to add:’ This is where it’s complicated. That’s why looking at the way we hurt people is so hard. And I did it with you, [telling you], “You’re nuts, you’re mad.”
‘And once again, I will apologize.’
In March last year, in a blog post, the Models Inc. star revealed he had cheated on Alison before.
‘I was the one that left the marriage,’ he said, citing alcohol and his work schedule as the main reasons for his infidelity.
‘When I acted out in that way, I didn’t really want to be there,’ he added.
‘There were reasons how I got into that place. And a lot of it was alcohol and being alone, feeling really lonely and being literally oceans away from my partner.’
Cameron said that he and Alison both had counselling to repair their marriage and that the experience ultimately became something they could grow from.
He didn’t specify when the infidelity took place, but it was implied that it happened in the early years of their marriage and not recently.
In 1991, the couple married and had three children together.
In 2017, as Cameron was a struggling actor in Los Angeles, the couple explored the financial difficulties they’d faced in the mid-2000s.
Alison disclosed in an interview with Stellar magazine that their friends were only leaving groceries on their doorstep so they could feed their three daughters.
‘Cam is always struggling with emotions, you know, a lot of anguish or guilt,’ she said.
At one point, after landing a part in David Lynch’s Inland Empire, Cameron figured he’d made it, only to find out that the job paid only $500 in total.
‘On the résumé, it looks fantastic,’ he admitted. Except for such low-budget initiatives, that’s the going rate. The father part of me just said, “I have to get the cash.”‘
Since then, the family has returned to Australia, where Cameron works for Smooth FM as an actress and radio host.
Past pain: He didn’t specify when the infidelity took place, but it was implied that it happened in the early years of their marriage in the ’90s and not recently. Pictured in an undated photo
