On Tuesday (October 13) and in a month’s time for UK viewers, Amber’s mum will make her debut on Australian screens.
The new arrival shows up to help celebrate her grandson Jai’s birthday, the Home and Away bosses have announced.
With Dean Thompson (Patrick O’Connor), she’s instantly thrown into tension, disapproving of his criminal record and his new-found involvement in Jai’s life.
When Dean gives Jai a bike for his birthday, Amber’s mother makes a dig about how it could possibly be stolen.
Jai also reveals that surfer guys do not like his Gran, believing them to be troublesome, which also clearly reflects her view of Dean.
Can the tensions end up ruining Jai’s day?
Amber’s mum’s arrival comes after Dean was blocked from introducing Jai to his own mother, Karen.
Amber made it very clear to Dean in Monday’s Australian episode (October 12) that she didn’t trust Karen to play a part in Jai’s life.
While Dean called Karen and left her a voicemail message, announcing that he had something important to tell her, he later backed out when she called him back the next morning.
Dean discovered that the night before he had just gotten drunk and went overboard with his message, assuring Karen that nothing was happening. Is Jai ever going to meet his other Grandma?
