Seven, the TV network that airs Home and Away in Australia, has given us our first clues as to what we can expect in Home and Away in 2021. Read on for some pretty major
- Steve Peacocke’s big return and a Home & Away extravaganza: Here’s the binge-worthy lineup coming to Channel Seven in 2021
Last night, it screened its 2021 “Upfronts,” a yearly preview of what the channel has in store in the year ahead.
The festival normally takes place in person at Seven’s Media City base, Eveleigh, but this year it was replaced by a virtual festival because of the modern environment we’ve all become so acquainted with.
Upfronts are activities intended to encourage the sponsors and investors of the channel to spend money, but they also provide TV fans with a glimpse into what their favorite TV networks expect to broadcast in the coming year. But, for any big spoilers coming up in 2021, keep reading.
We saw Sam Frost (Jasmine), Emily Weir (Mackenzie), Rob Kipa–Williams (Ari), and Ethan Browne (Tane) stroll along Summer Beach as the Upfront primarily addresses sponsors, debating the popularity of the show on TV and online over the past year.
Sam tells us that it gets over 2 million viewers per week as the number 1 Australian drama. Ethan tells us that every week, over 12 million minutes of the show is streamed on catch-up service 7Plus, while on Facebook and Instagram, Rob points to the show’s over 2 million social media followers.
That’s a lot of Aussies tuning in for the heat, surf, romance, suspense, and action, “as Emily points out.”
Today, the overview of what we can see in 2021 is a significant point. Home and Away have the following to say about the event:
It’s the No. 1 drama that’s embedded in Australia’s DNA and in 2021, award-winning Home and Away will explore stories of new beginnings, second chances, love, betrayal and revenge.
A ghost from the past will threaten to derail one of the Bay’s favourite couples, a familiar face returns to right some wrongs, and when love becomes twisted and trust is misplaced, the community will be torn apart.
Plus, a special wedding we’ve all been waiting for – all set against the beautiful backdrop of sunny Summer Bay.
If you’re an ardent reader of Home and Away spoilers, you’re probably still acquainted with some of those things. Yet there are still a few new pieces of information in there, so let’s try to analyze stuff and see what we can infer from it.
A ghost from the past
- Leah and Justin
- Bella and Nikau
- Mackenzie and Ari
- Alf and Martha
- Roo and Owen
- Angelo and Taylor
- Tori and Christian
Another definite option is Roo (Georgie Parker) and Owen (Cameron Daddo). They are one of the newest couples in the Bay and are always searching their footing a lot, but that definitely does not make them free from problems. Owen had tried to adjust to a new friendship, having just learned that he had a long lost sibling he had never met before.
We do have to see the rest of his family, including his daughters and his former partner. Will one of them come and cause problems in the Bay?
It seems that Bella (Courtney Miller) and Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) are among the most possible candidates. The favorite young people have not been together for so long, but they have had a lot of drama to deal with already.
Shortly before the pair left Summer Bay for the Blue Mountains, Bella admitted to him that Colby had played a part in the death of her father. While he did a decent job of keeping it hidden until now, Bella was wracked with shame that he had to deal with it, so could the additional tension trigger their relationship more problems?
Or will Colby’s fallout from going to jail (keep reading about this one!) be too hard about Bella to contend with, and she breaks it off?
Earlier this year, paparazzi pictures showed Nikau with his arm around a mystery blonde played by Sam Barrett, an actress.
The character of Sam was seen chatting to Ryder (Lukas Radovich) and Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo), with Nik around her with his shoulder. Of course, this could be entirely innocent, but could she be an ex or acquaintance from the past of Nikau set to trigger problems for Bella’s (Courtney Miller) blossoming relationship?
A familiar face
“A familiar face returns to right some wrongs”
This can only be the one and only Heath Braxton!
Information is also few and far between, but in a plot-related to a number of Summer Bay favorites, we know that Heath is expected to return either at the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021.
Home and Away took over a car park in a Sydney suburb earlier this year to film a battle scene between two rival gangs.
The movie showed a group of unknown characters approaching Patrick O’Connor (Dean), Rob Kipa-Williams (Ari), and Ethan Browne (Tane). A familiar face comes out of a mustard-colored ute as they talk, and it’s none other than Dan Ewing, who from 2011 to 2017 played Heath off and on.
There was immediate debate as to whether Heath had come to Summer Bay, more than three years since the last time he was seen. Some viewers claim that Heath has returned to help Colby get out of jail, with his appearance coinciding with the Colby / Ross Nixon plot, and with the cast and crew reportedly seen filming at a prison.
However, since Tim Franklin (Colby) has not been seen filming on Palm Beach (the real-life home of the outdoor scenes of Summer Bay) since June, any breakout attempt does not seem to be a success. Another rumor is that Colby is rotting in jail, but it seems possible that we’re just weeks away from watching the final scenes of Senior Constable Thorne.
Another distinct probability is that the start of Heath’s return storyline is Tane’s latest dodgy dealings. He recently bagged a job at Summer Bay Auto, but almost instantly put Ziggy and the garage in hot water when he used it to store a van full of stolen goods.
He’s left with a hot car and nowhere to go, with the police chasing down the vehicle now, and his crooked buddies wiping their hands off the hit.
Can the van be linked to the Braxtons in a way? It seems like Heath is on the same side as Dean, Tane, and Ari, but at this point, it seems impossible… but maybe an ever-loyal Dean comes to the rescue of Ziggy and Tane, using his old River Boy mates’ help to fend off whoever comes looking for stolen goods?
The return of Heath to Aussie screens could not be far off. With rumors that he will debut on or just before the 2020 season finale of the show, we maybe just a month or two away from the return of the River Boy.
Love becomes twisted
“The group can be ripped apart until passion becomes twisted and faith is lost.”
Well, we can’t tell anything, and when it comes to this one, we’re stumped. Over the last few years, we have not been short of affairs and breakups in Summer Bay, but not many have had the courage to blow apart the group.
Any thoughts on this one? At the end of the post, we’ve opened the comments section, so let us know what you think it could relate to!
There is no doubt in our minds that this is Tori’s and Christian’s wedding. Yes, it appears like a few people are only starting out are not planning to stick around.
The two doctors may have only just shared their first proper date on Australian screens, but it looks like Christian is a fast mover, and he’s set to propose to Dr. Morgan in the first half of 2021.
Eagle-eyed fan Vikki Ross was at Palm Beach in August and was lucky enough to witness the aftermath of the engagement, as her friends and family gathered together to celebrate the happy news.
The happy couple filmed scenes walking along the beach towards the surf club, with an engagement ring clearly visible on Tori’s hand.
As Christian and Tori arrive at the surf club, they’re greeted by shouts of “Come on up!” from Leah and Justin, and a large banner on the balcony emblazoned with “Tori and Christian together forever”.
When it comes to planning a wedding, the people of Summer Bay don’t stick around, because it’s doubtful there’ll be a 2 to 3-year dedication here. Do we get engagement bells by next season’s halfway point?
Her first romance since her friendship with Ash (George Mason), which ended in 2018, will mark Tori’s relationship with Christian. She seems to have met someone even more appropriate, a fair doctor searching for a serious relationship, but will this ever be happy for Tori after all?
With the arrival of Bridie Carter as Susie McCalister, and Luke Arnold as a likely fresh love interest for Jasmine, we’re already set for two brand new characters in 2021.
The two well-known Aussie actors were recently seen shooting scenes in Palm Beach, as we mentioned in our August spoiler roundup.
Susie McCalister, Bridie’s character, seems set to befriend John Palmer, after his split with Marilyn Chambers, possibly as a new love interest. Scenes shot in August showed the couple stroll down the beach hand in hand.
“She is a really fun, dynamic woman,” Bridie told The Advertiser. “She is fiercely independent and she comes to the Bay from WA and, let me say, she befriends certain people quite particularly.”
Luke Arnold, famed for playing Long John Silver in Black Sails, has also been seen shooting several times in Palm Beach. The bulk of his scenes so far appear to have been with Sam Frost (Jasmine), implying that the two may have a blossoming relationship.
Is he going to be what Jasmine wants in order to start getting over Robbo?
And for now, that’s it. Much of this is already a lot of speculation, but we’re not going to have to wait long until we find out how much of it is right.
Last year, the final episode of Home and Away aired on November 27th in Australia. If a similar trajectory continues this year, so we will have just one month of the 2020 season left before the show takes its annual summer break.
In the last few weeks of the season, and in 2021, what are you looking forward to most? In the comments below, let us see.
